AIRFREIGHT: Cargo Fresh developed to protect perishable goods

Cargo Fresh - absorbency for perishable goods in the hold....

SIRANE has developed an absorbent solution for the transportation and protection of perishable goods in the airfreight industry – Cargo Fresh.

Perishable and thermal sensitive goods can often be rejected in the process of being loaded into cargo holds – due to the lack of absorbency/protection.

Simon Balderson, Sirane MD said: “With chilled products being exposed to ambient temperatures during transportation there is a risk of high humidity causing condensation, and the possibility of leakage from certain transported goods can bring about the risk of corrosion if not contained.

“This is particularly an issue with products packed with ice, such as seafood.

“Cargo Fresh is a highly effective solution, which is easy to use and offers a high level of protection for both the cargo and the aircraft hold itself.”

Cargo Fresh is a highly absorbent material and acts as a layer of protection or moisture barrier. It will absorb from 1.5 to 10 litres of liquid per square metre, with a barrier coated HDPE film base which prevents liquid penetrating through to the floor and an absorbent top layer. This protects both the goods and the aircraft.

Cargo Fresh can also be used as a solution in shipping containers where there are issues with condensation or ‘container rain’.

It is available as standard in reels 1200mm wide and 73m long, with absorbency of 1.5, 3, 5, 7.5 or 10 litres per square metre available.

Sirane is an innovative packaging development-to-manufacture company, with expertise in absorbency and material science. Specialisms include bags and pouches, absorbent products, shelf-life extension and dual-ovenable products.

It has four main divisions: food packaging; medical & healthcare; horticultural and industrial. The company is based in Telford, Shropshire, with additional manufacturing in Guadalajara (Mexico), Wroclaw (Poland) and Moscow (Russia).
