EARTHPOUCH and Earthfilm will take centre-stage this week as Sirane joins the inaugural ‘Plastic-Free Land’ at Packaging Innovations in London.
Plastic Free Land has been organised by pressure group and lobbyists A Plastic Planet (APP) and will form a distinct section with the Packaging Innovations show which takes place at London’s Olympia from September 11-12, 2019.
The aim is to put all the best plastic-free materials and ideas in one place – and Sirane will be heavily promoting our award-winning Earthpouch and Earthfilm – both of which have been officially endorsed as ‘plastic-free’ by the experts at APP.
Simon Balderson, Sirane MD, said: “We’re proud to have been invited to join ‘Plastic-Free Land’. It’s a great concept, and we’ll be alongside other companies who are endeavouring to do something positive to change things long-term.
“Our Earthpouch and Earthfilm is perfect for companies looking to get out of plastics and has already been certified by A Plastic Planet as being plastic-free – meaning customers can apply to use their trust-mark as part of their packaging.
“This material is paper-based, with a natural coating. It is free from all plastics, manufactured from a sustainable source, and can be recycled as part of the paper stream – so ticks pretty much every environmental box going.”
Sirane’s award-winning Earthpouch – now available in standard, barrier and high-barrier, is ideal for anyone looking to remove unnecessary plastic packaging.
Perfect for a range of dry and moist products – including granolas, porridge oats, grains, health/diet supplements, pet foods and more, the Earthpouch is a paper-based solution with a heat-sealable coating, preformed into a stand-up pouch.
It can also be provided in reel format as flow-wrap film – Earthfilm.
While the Earthpouch was developed initially as a food packaging solution, we’re starting to get a lot of interest from other sectors – the pressure to go plastic-free is not just on the food industry, it is being felt across all manner of industries.
We already sell to a number of companies packaging products such as pills and health supplements, tablets and feminine hygiene products – we’re a development company, so if you think we might be able to help, be sure to visit the stand.
Earthfilm also hit the news in July when Shropshire company Flower & White launched their new confectionery range – beating industry giants Mars and Nestle to become the first company in the confectionery sector with plastic-free packaging.
Simon Balderson said: “Earthpouch is a plastic-free solution, a paper-based material with a plastic-free coating which is perfect for a range of products. We can supply it with a range of different barriers, including high barrier, to suit your needs.
“If you’re serious about moving away from plastics, then this – and many of the other products in our Earth Packaging range – might be exactly what you’re looking for.”
Sirane’s award-winning packaging ‘Earthpouch’ was recently given the plastic-free seal of approval by APP. The certification from APP allows anyone looking at using the Earthpouch or Earthfilm to apply to APP to use their official Plastic-Free trust mark on packaging. For just £50 per SKU, companies using the Earthpouch or Earthfilm can let their customers buy the product confident that it is 100% free of any plastic, by placing the trust mark in a prominent place on the front, visible on shelf.
A Plastic Planet – https://aplasticplanet.com – was founded to ‘ignite and inspire the world to turn off the plastic tap’. APP focuses ‘on the use of conventional plastic; especially that used in packaging and single-use’, stating that ‘recent history has proven that recycling this kind of plastic if not the answer. It has little value, is mostly down-cycled, too difficult to reclaim and often contaminated’.
Their ‘Plastic-Free Land’ is the latest in a series of initiatives – which have included the first plastic-free aisles being introduced in supermarkets here and overseas.
2018 was a big year for the Earthpouch with some major industry recognition– it won a Green Apple Award, presented at the Houses of Parliament, and it also secured first place at the UK Packaging Awards in the Resource Efficient Pack of the Year category. The Earthpouch was also recognised at the Sustainable Food Awards in Amsterdam, where it finished third in the sustainable packaging category.
Packaging Innovations in London will be the start of a busy few months for Sirane – as we’re also heading to Fachpack in Germany for the first time at the end of September, and then exhibiting at Packaging Innovations Madrid in November.
The ‘Plastic-Free Land’ is the latest in a series of high-profile events in which Sirane has been featured – in June we took part in the inaugural Plastic-Free World Conference in Expo in Frankfurt, and will also be at the 2020 event in Cologne.
