ETHYLENE removal from within the packaging can significantly extend the shelf-life of many types of fresh produce and Sirane’s products could prove the perfect solution.
And not only can Sirane manufacture a range of absorbent products with integrated ethylene absorbency, we’re also set-up to run all the trials and collect all the data you need.
Simon Balderson, Sirane MD, said: “Sirane’s absorbent fruit pads are all offered with ethylene absorbency as an option – which can be vital for the shelf-life of a lot of fruit and vegetables.
“Our pads have been made so that all the technology is incorporated into one simple pad, which is easy to use, environmentally friendly, and cheaper than other solutions.
“Our food packaging laboratory is set-up to run all the absorbency tests you need to ensure you have all the data required. On this sort of project, we’re always here to help. We have specialised equipment for gathering ethylene data, so please do get in touch.”
Ethylene control within packaging can be offered in the form of an absorbent pad, but also in the form of a label insert for when standard absorbency is not required.
Sirane’s new Dri-fresh Resolve ‘Soft-hold’ pad combines the cushioning and protective properties of bubble films with effective absorbency, high permeability and excellent presentation. And, it can have ethylene absorbency incorporated in to the pad.
“Soft fruit is often transported over huge distances,” said Jeremy Hadyn-Davies, sales director, “and so protecting the fruit is vital. The more fruit that arrives at its destination in perfect and saleable condition, the better it is for everyone involved in the supply chain.
“Berries are not always the fruit that springs to mind when considering ethylene, but strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and blackberries all benefit from ethylene absorption.
“Sirane can offer the ultimate protection – cushioned liquid absorbency alongside ethylene absorbency. It is even available with an anti-fungal treatment if required.
“Soft-hold has been developed with distributors and retailers in mind, with an eye on the needs of the companies involved. Our customers have been telling us they want pads that offer more protection for the fruit, and that actively extend shelf-life.
“Soft-hold ticks all the boxes, and the feedback so far has been incredibly positive. These pads combine everything into one great product, with the cushioned layer offering that final level of protection that no other product on the market has managed. Adding in ethylene absorbency could be the icing on the cake as far as these fruit pads are concerned.”
Dri-Fresh Soft-hold complements the popular Dri-Fresh Resolve pad, which can also be ethylene absorbent, offers a high level of protection and is also 100% compostable.
And for anyone looking for the ultimate protection, the very latest fruit packaging product from Sirane – aimed at soft & delicate fruits – could have ethylene absorbency as well
Sirane’s new Dri-Fresh ABV pads contain a blend of natural bio-flavonoids and organic acids which work together to naturally enhance the fruit’s own protective defences. Together with the absorbency within the pad, they offer an outstanding level of protection.
The technology can be supplied as standard absorbent pads or incorporated into our Dri-Fresh Soft-Hold pads – absorbent cushioned pads which prevent damage to soft-fruit during transportation. The technology is activated by moisture – so only functions when needed.
Dri-Fresh ABV has both FDA and EU approval. Successful trials have already been held in the US with cut fruit – including strawberries – and in the Far East. In addition to berries, delicate fruits such as kiwis, mangoes, nectarines, papayas, peaches etc could all benefit.
Simon Balderson, Sirane MD, said: “Shelf-life extension within fruit, particularly the soft-fruit world, is a big deal in the industry, just a few extra days can make a big difference.
“Soft-fruit has a short-shelf-life and so additional shelf-life is very valuable. It has little in the way of protective skin, so is vulnerable to fungal and bacterial degradation. As it is soft it is also vulnerable to damage during transportation – which can often be a long way.
“This is a completely natural solution to those problems that is very effective. What we’re doing is effectively taking the fruit’s own natural defences and supplying it when needed in a concentrated form. The results so far have proven to be very impressive.
“The combination of flavonoids which are anti-oxidants and anti-microbial, with organic acids including citric acid and ascorbic acids is harmless, as all elements are found naturally within fruit. It is clean, simple, and effective. Nature itself often has the answers.
“This complements our existing shelf-life extending technologies, including absorbent cushioned pads, anti-fungal pads, ethylene-absorbing pads and labels and more.
“With so many different combinations, and so many different parameters affecting the shelf-life of fresh produce, it is about finding the pads that work for you, in your supply chain, in your conditions, and with your fruit and vegetables – and we’re here to help.”
Sirane will be exhibiting at Fruit Logistica in Berlin from tomorrow, February 3-5, 2016. Our stand is B-09, Hall 8.2. Anyone wanting to know more about any products is welcome to visit….
