SIRANE’S Earth Packaging range – sustainable, compostable and recyclable – will again take centre stage at Packaging Innovations at the NEC next month.
We’re once again taking our eco-friendly packaging range to the Birmingham show – along with other more traditional and popular packaging solutions.
Simon Balderson, Sirane MD, said: “Sirane’s constantly innovating, and the environment is at the forefront of a lot of our thinking. Plastics – and perhaps more specifically removing plastics where possible – is the hot-topic.
“We have our award-winning plastic-free packaging solutions, Earthpouch, but that’s just one of a number of products in our sustainable range. We also have a number of exciting developments on the go, some of which may be on the stand.
“Our range also includes both recyclable and compostable absorbent pads, compostable shelf-life extending films, and even compostable plant pots.
“But it not just about removing plastics. Plastic is still the answer in some cases…. It’s about making sure that the plastic used is easily recyclable and we have, for example, the ability to make pouches and bags out of pure PE, which can be recycled.”
Simon himself will be giving a seminar in the Eco-Pack Theatre, on the topic of “Plastic food packaging: a tough act to follow. Where can plastic packaging realistically be removed from the supply chain, and what’s being done to develop solutions not currently available? The date and time is still to be confirmed.
Our Earth Packaging range includes our award-winning plastic-free packaging ‘Earthpouch’ – a paper-based solution with a heat-sealable coating, which is preformed into a stand-up pouch, along with a flow-wrap film Earthfilm.
Both products are available in standard, barrier and high barrier.
The Earthpouch/Earthfilm is perfect for a range of dry and moist products – including granolas, seeds and snacks, confectionery, porridge oats, grains, health/diet supplements, pet foods, chocolate and more. We’ve also got a growing number of customers from non-food companies using the products.
2018 was a big year for the Earthpouch with some major industry recognition– it won a Green Apple Award, presented at the Houses of Parliament, and it also secured first place at the UK Packaging Awards in the Resource Efficient Pack of the Year category. The Earthpouch was also recognised at the Sustainable Food Awards in Amsterdam, where it finished third in the sustainable packaging category.
One of the questions we’re often asked is ‘how do I fill the pouch?’ Well we’ve also recently added a pouch-filling line to our offering, the M7.
Sirane is an innovative food packaging development-to-manufacture company, with expertise in absorbency and material science. Specialisms include bags and pouches, absorbent products, shelf-life extension and dual-ovenable products.
Jeremy Haydn-Davies, Sales Director, said: “While Earth Packaging may grab the headlines, Sirane has a wide range of packaging solutions. From absorbent pads through to multi-compartment steam-cooking bags, from ovenable dividers to sticky boneguard, Sirane invariably has the packaging solutions you’re after.
“And we’re not just a food packaging company – we also have a range of medical and healthcare products, such as anti-slip absorbent floor mats and 95 kPa specimen transport bags, and a range of horticultural packaging solutions.
“We also have a bags and pouches division offering not just the plastic-free films, but products such as retort pouches, thermally-insulated bags and more.”
Packaging Innovations runs at the NEC, Birmingham, from February 26-27. Our stand at the show is L30 – right next to the popular Eco-Pack Theatre.
We’re also exhibiting at Fish International in Bremen, Germany, next month. The show runs from February 9-11, find the Sirane stand at D54.
