THREE areas in South Gloucestershire (UK) began a trial to recycle soft plastics earlier this month in a bid to reduce landfill waste – and if more councils follow suit, packaging like our RePEat range could become even more popular.
Sirane’s RePEat range – which includes stand-up pouches, flow-wrap films, spouted pouches and vacuum pouches – is made from LDPE and is recyclable.
However, in most cases it relies on the consumer taking it to a soft-plastics recycling point, which are sometimes found at supermarkets or recycling centres.
Peter Ralten, Sirane’s chief commercial officer, said: “Hopefully this Gloucestershire trial will be a success, and we will see other local authorities follow their lead.
“It’s frustrating that easily recyclable materials don’t get collected across the UK and rely on consumers making the effort to recycle – some will but many won’t make the effort, which means recyclable material ends up in landfill.
“This is absolutely the sort of initiative which should be encouraged, and well done to the authorities involved who have decided to act and do something positive.”
The trial aims to collect soft plastics from around 2,000 households as part of a drive to increase the amount of packaging that can be recycled.
If successful, the number of homes included in the trial will be expanded in 2023, before it is rolled out to all households in the district by 2025.
The scheme is a partnership between SUEZ Recycling and Recovery UK, and leading industry organisations WRAP, RECOUP and Ecosurety..
Sirane’s RePEat range offers recyclable PE-based products, including stand-up pouches, spouted pouches, vacuum bags, flow-wrap film, and thermally-insulated bags. All of our RePEat packaging range are constructed from mono-materials and so are recyclable within any LDPE recycling stream.
We offer custom printing, with environmentally-friendly water-based inks used.
