SIRANE’S US partners Elkay have just exhibited the Earthpouch to US audiences for the first time – exhibiting at the IDDBA 2019 show in Orlando, Florida.

Elkay’s team were joined on the stand at the Orange County Convention Center by Sirane MD, Simon Balderson, and sales manager Karl Heggarty.

IDDBA – the International Dairy, Deli & Bakery Association show – attracted more than 10,000 industry professionals – and Earthpouch created plenty of interest.

Simon Balderson said: “The Earthpouch has real potential within this sector, and Elkay did a great job of promoting the concept and generating interest.

“The US is just the same as the rest of the planet – there are customers, and food producers, looking to reduce the amount of plastic in the packaging stream. The Earthpouch is a great way for many companies to replace plastics.”

Sirane’s award-winning Earthpouch – now available in standard, barrier and high-barrier, is ideal for anyone looking to remove unnecessary plastics from their packaging. It’s also available as a flow-wrap film (Earthfilm) and flat bag (Earthbag).

Perfect for a range of dry and moist products – including granolas, porridge oats, grains, health/diet supplements and more, the Earthpouch is a paper-based solution with a heat-sealable coating, which is preformed into a stand-up pouch.

Simon Balderson said: “Earthpouch is a plastic-free solution, a paper-based material with a plastic-free coating which is perfect for a range of products. We can supply it with a range of different barriers, to suit your needs.

“We’re now supplying into a range of different industries – as varied as bovine collagen peptides and seaweed, some food but also many in other industries.

“If you’re serious about moving away from plastics, then this – and many of the other products in our Earth Packaging range – might be exactly what you’re looking for.”

2018 was a big year for the Earthpouch with some major industry recognition– it won a Green Apple Award, presented at the Houses of Parliament, and it also secured first place at the UK Packaging Awards in the Resource Efficient Pack of the Year category. The Earthpouch was also recognised at the Sustainable Food Awards in Amsterdam, where it finished third in the sustainable packaging category.

“The Earthpouch is a fabulous product, and we were honoured to receive industry recognition and pick-up two top awards. Sirane’s constantly innovating, and the environment is at the forefront of a lot of our thinking. Plastics – and perhaps more specifically removing plastics where possible – is a hot-topic in North America, and it’s great that Sirane is able to offer this product,” added Simon Balderson.

Elkay also exhibited a number of other products, including their popular Ready Chef Go cooking bag programme and slow-cooker liners. Ready Chef Go is an Elkay-led bag programme which allows retailers to sell food in ovenable/microwave-ready packaging – and has proved to be extraordinarily popular in the US.

IDDBA ran from June 2-4, 2019 – next year’s show will be held in Indianapolis.
