SIRANE MD Simon Balderson will join a panel of experts in discussion at the Speciality & Fine Food Fair on Monday – “People Vs. Plastic: What is Retail’s Role?”
Sirane’s award-winning packaging ‘Earthpouch’ was recently given the plastic-free seal of approval by campaigners and lobbyists A Plastic Planet (APP) – and it is APP’s Siân Sutherland who is hosting the 30 to 40-minute panel discussion.
The invited speaker line-up will discuss topics such as: marketing and messaging; Refill options for sustainable sourcing; Why retailers should be going into unpackaged and/or using compostable packaging; How can retailers source to adopt these changes? What are the challenges retailers are facing in implementing these changes? The logistical considerations and the steps the entire supply chain need to make for this to be possible. What is the government’s role?

The materials can be recycled with the paper stream – a fact that was also recently endorsed by the UK Recycling Association following rigorous testing procedures.

2018 was a big year for the Earthpouch with some major industry recognition– it won a Green Apple Award, presented at the UK Houses of Parliament, and it also secured first place at the UK Packaging Awards in the Resource Efficient Pack of the Year category. The Earthpouch was also recognised at the Sustainable Food Awards in Amsterdam, where it finished third in the sustainable packaging category.
