SIRANE’S new factory in the heart of the Mexican berry-growing region opens in two weeks’ time – just a few weeks before Fruit Logistica in Berlin.
Sirane Mexico will be based in Guadalajara, close to the major berry growing regions and the headquarters of many major growers, and will focus initially on absorbent fruit pads.
And for any of the growers in South, Central and North America wanting to know more, the busy Berlin trade show will offer a first opportunity to meet some of the Sirane team.
Simon Balderson, Sirane MD, said: “Certainly in soft-fruit terms, Mexico is one of the world’s major producers, but geographically it is also quite a distance from many of its major export markets. Mexico is the perfect place for Sirane to begin manufacturing and it’s now only a few weeks until we’ll be moving in – meaning Fruit Logistica is timed perfectly.
“Shelf-life matters to the Central American growers, and they understand its importance. They are very experienced and highly educated in this area, so it fits perfectly for us.
“I’ve visited the region myself, and found the growers to be very receptive to new technology, and keen to get involved. They are seriously excited by what we’re offering.
“By opening manufacturing in Mexico, Sirane will be able to offer better service and better technology to the region, whilst also gaining from their knowledge and expertise.
“We’d be happy to share our plans for the region with any visitors to Fruit Logistica, and talk through the products and technology we’ll be offering to the fruit growers in the region.”
Mexico’s soft-fruit industry is one of the largest in the world. Its temperature, height above sea-level and rainfall make growing conditions absolutely ideal. Vast quantities of fruit including strawberries, blackberries, raspberries and blueberries are exported to Europe, North America and even the Far East – making packaging vitally important.
Sirane offers a range of absorbent pads for fruit, including standard absorbency, absorbent ‘cushioned ‘ bubble pads, and our new Dri-Fresh ABV pads, which contain a blend of natural bio-flavonoids and organic acids which naturally enhance fruit’s own protective defences. Together with the absorbency within the pad, they offer an outstanding level of protection.
The technology can be supplied as standard absorbent pads or incorporated into our Dri-Fresh Soft-Hold pads – absorbent cushioned pads which prevent damage to soft-fruit during transportation. The technology is activated by moisture – so only functions when needed.
Simon Balderson, Sirane MD, added: “This is a completely natural solution to those problems that is very effective. What we’re doing is effectively taking the fruit’s own natural defences and supplying it when needed in a concentrated form. The results so far have proven to be very impressive, with trials showing shelf-life extension of several days.
“The combination of flavonoids which are anti-oxidants and anti-microbial, with organic acids including citric acid and ascorbic acids is harmless, as all elements are found naturally within fruit. It is clean, simple, and effective. Nature itself often has the answers.”
All of these products will be manufactured at the new 1,500 sq m unit in Guadalajara, in an innovation park where there is scope to expand the site as the Mexican business grows.
