Eco-friendly salmon boards and sandwich packs – find out more at Plastic-Free World Conference & Expo

The Plastic-Free World Conference & Expo

RECENT plastic-free developments from Sirane, including our new eco-friendly salmon boards and sandwich packs, will both be among the products visitors to the Plastic-Free World Conference & Expo can discover more about.

The Plastic-Free World Conference & Expo has gone virtual for 2020 – with Sirane one of the companies who will now have a seminar live streamed.

MD Simon Balderson will be discussing developments in the plastic-free sector as well as future plans, and will focus in particular on board, and coated board, and the role that could have to play in creating a sustainable packaging future.

Simon Balderson, Sirane MD, said: “Salmon boards – and boards for other fish and some cooked meats – are an integral part of the packaging solution – yet the majority of boards used globally cannot be recycled because of their construction.

“We’ve worked with a seafood company to determine how to meet the exacting requirements of such a board, and still supply an eco-friendly version.

“Our boards perform exactly the same as the gold/silver boards which are widely used, if not better, but with one key advantage – they can be recycled, or industrially composted, they offer a truly sustainable packaging solution.

“These are the solutions that are out there, and I will be talking about what I believe is achievable here by combining the different technologies already available.

“We’ve also recently launched a plastic-free tree guard using board and coatings – another example of somewhere that it is possible to remove plastic entirely.

“And our plastic-free sandwich packs are another packaging solution which could be appearing on a shelf near you soon. The solutions are there if people want them.”

Two events had been scheduled by organisers Trans-Global Events – Cologne in June, which had already been rescheduled, and Atlanta in November. This followed the success of last year’s inaugural event in Frankfurt, Germany.

Both have been replaced with a virtual summit on November 9 & 10, 2020

“We have almost 200 confirmed speakers and in our virtual exhibit area more than 70 of the world’s leading companies and exciting start-ups are on-hand with products and solutions to help companies reduce their plastic footprints,” said Mike Robinson, CEO of organisers Trans-Global Events.

“Those exhibitors will still be showcasing their technologies and solutions via their virtual booths; our speakers will still be offering their expertise via pre-recorded and live interactive presentations and panel discussions; and delegates will benefit from almost everything the real event would have offered.

“And pertinent for 2020, in particular, they’ll be able to experience all of this without having to leave the comfort and safety of their homes or offices.”

Sirane’s range of plastic-free packaging solutions includes our paper-based stand-up pouches, Earthpouch, and paper-based flow-wrap film Earthfilm. We also offer both compostable and paper-based absorbent pads, and products such as compostable cling-film compostable shrink-film for fresh produce and bio-films.

In addition, Sirane offers a range of board-based products, including our new recyclable sandwich skillet, Earthwedge. Many of our other board products, including cake boards, patisserie boards, pizza boards, etc, can be offered using eco-friendly coating which mean the products can be recycled after use.

We also have solutions for the horticultural market – such as our plastic-free Earthboard Tree-Guards, which can be used to protect saplings.

Simon Balderson, Sirane MD, said: “We have plenty of plastic-free packaging solutions to share, and last year’s event in Frankfurt was really successfully for Sirane, and generated a lot of interest in our products – so we are very much looking forward to getting involved with the virtual event, which will have an even wider reach.”
