PLASTIC-FREE WORLD: plastic-free solutions no. 5, Earthpouch

Earthpouches - plastic-free and recyclable

PLASTIC-FREE World Virtual Conference & Expo begins next week – and our award-winning plastic-free Earthpouch is definitely one product that will be of interest.

Earthpouch is a paper-based stand-up pouch with a water-based barrier coating which is plastic-free and is recyclable as part of the paper stream.

Simon Balderson, Sirane MD, said: “The Earthpouch is one of our more well-known plastic-free solutions – it has been offered for a couple of years now and gained some real popularity, as well as picking up some awards along the way.

“We’re working on higher barriers all the time, and the Earthpouch can be used to replace plastics in many instances. We have customers who are packaging products as varied as muesli and seaweed, almonds and meringue bites.

“This material is also available as a flow-wrap film – Earthfilm.”

The Plastic-Free World Conference & Expo has gone virtual for 2020 – with Sirane one of the companies who will now have a seminar live streamed.

Two events had been scheduled by organisers Trans-Global Events – Cologne in June, which had already been rescheduled, and Atlanta in November. Both were postponed and replaced with a virtual event which runs November 9-10.

Sirane MD Simon Balderson will deliver a virtual seminar on plastic-free packaging solutions – with a particular focus on coated board and coated papers, and how they can be used to replace plastics within the food packaging supply chain.

Sirane is an innovative packaging development-to-manufacture company, with expertise in absorbency and material science. Specialisms include bags and pouches, absorbent products, shelf-life extension and dual-ovenable products.

It has four main divisions: food packaging; medical & healthcare; horticultural and industrial. The company is based in Telford, Shropshire, with additional manufacturing in Guadalajara (Mexico) and Moscow (Russia).
