WAR ON PLASTICS: Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and the BBC discover our Earth Packaging

Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and the BBC were filming at Sirane

SIRANE welcomed the TV cameras to our Telford headquarters yesterday – with filming taking place ahead of the second series of BBC One’s War on Plastics.

Presenter and environmental campaigner Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall interviewed MD Simon Balderson and other members of our team as he discovered more about our range of sustainable packaging solutions, which includes plastic-free.

Simon Balderson, Sirane MD, said: “Sirane’s constantly innovating, and the environment is at the forefront of a lot of our thinking. Plastics – and perhaps more specifically removing plastics where possible – is the hot-topic.

“The War on Plastics team were keen to find out more about our plastic-free packaging within our Earth Packaging range, filming’s taken place for most of the day, and we’re looking forward now to seeing the programme aired.”

BBC One’s first series of War on Plastics – presented by Hugh and Anita Rani – was aired in June 2019. The episode filmed yesterday is scheduled to shown in April.

Our Earth Packaging range – sustainable, compostable and recyclable – will again take centre stage at Packaging Innovations at the NEC next month.

We’re once again taking our eco-friendly packaging range to the Birmingham show – along with other more traditional and popular packaging solutions.

Simon himself will be giving a seminar in the Eco-Pack Theatre, on the topic of “Plastic food packaging: a tough act to follow. Where can plastic packaging realistically be removed from the supply chain, and what’s being done to develop solutions not currently available?  The seminar is Thursday, February 27 at 1.35pm.

Our Earth Packaging range includes our award-winning plastic-free packaging ‘Earthpouch’ – a paper-based solution with a heat-sealable coating, which is preformed into a stand-up pouch, along with a flow-wrap film Earthfilm.

The Earthpouch/Earthfilm is perfect for a range of dry and moist products – including granolas, seeds and snacks, confectionery, porridge oats, grains, health/diet supplements, pet foods, chocolate and more. We’ve also got a growing number of customers from non-food companies using the products.

Packaging Innovations runs at the NEC, Birmingham, from February 26-27. Our stand at the show is L30 – right next to the popular Eco-Pack Theatre.

We’re also exhibiting at Fish International in Bremen, Germany, next month. The show runs from February 9-11, find the Sirane stand at D54.
