CFIA: French food industry show moved to autumn… and to Nantes

CFIA – the popular food industry trade show in France which was originally scheduled for March – has now been moved to September… and moved to Nantes.

The show in Rennes was postponed in March due to the ongoing Coronavirus crisis – and was rescheduled for May 26-28 – but organisers GL Events have removed any uncertainty by moving the show – which Sirane will exhibit at – to the autumn.

A statement from the organisers read: “Given its geographical proximity to Rennes, but also due to its territory rich in food industries, Nantes represents an ideal alternative. The Western region represents 70% of our visitors, 30% of whom come from the Pays de Loire region. We therefore remain faithful to our positioning, at the heart of the 1st European food production area.

“We also consulted our visitors to find out their feelings. The majority of production units remain mobilized during this unprecedented crisis. For the entire profession, it was inconceivable that the CFIA would not take place in 2020 at the end of this health crisis. For 24 years, and even more this year, the CFIA has been the place that brings together, federates, builds, and imagines the food industry of tomorrow.”

Sirane’s Earth Packaging range – sustainable, compostable and recyclable – will take centre stage on our stand at the CFIA show when it goes ahead. We’ll be taking our eco-friendly packaging range to the Nantes show – along with many other more traditional and popular packaging solutions including dual-ovenable and absorbent.

Simon Balderson, Sirane MD, said: “It’s great news that CFIA will still go-ahead, even if six months later than planned. For the food industry in France, as the organisers said, it was just inconceivable that it wouldn’t happen at some point.

“We look forward to the Nantes event, and meeting customers old and new.

“Sirane’s constantly innovating, and the environment is at the forefront of a lot of our thinking. Plastics – and perhaps more specifically removing plastics where possible – is the hot-topic, and that’s the case across much of Europe. We very much look forward to sharing our development work and ideas with visitors to the show.

“We have our award-winning plastic-free packaging solutions, Earthpouch, but that’s just one of a number of products in our sustainable range. The companies in France we’re already working with generally seem very keen on change.

“Our range also includes both recyclable and compostable absorbent pads, compostable shelf-life extending films, and compostable cling-film.”

Our Earth Packaging range includes our award-winning plastic-free packaging ‘Earthpouch’ – a paper-based solution with a heat-sealable coating, which is preformed into a stand-up pouch, along with a flow-wrap film Earthfilm.

Both products are available in standard, barrier and high barrier.

Sirane is an innovative food packaging development-to-manufacture company, with expertise in absorbency and material science. Specialisms include bags and pouches, absorbent products, shelf-life extension and dual-ovenable products.

We also recently acquired a board manufacturer/converter – which will allow us to further develop a range of eco-friendly board-based products, the first of which, a plastic-free sandwich skillet, is about to go into full production trials.

The Earthwedge is a coated board, combined with our speciality coated papers, which creates a plastic-free sandwich skillet which can easily be recycled.

Jeremy Haydn-Davies, Sales Director, said: “While Earth Packaging may grab the headlines, Sirane has a wide range of packaging solutions. From absorbent pads through to multi-compartment steam-cooking bags, from ovenable dividers to sticky boneguard, Sirane invariably has the packaging solutions you’re after.

“We also have a bags and pouches division offering not just the plastic-free films, but products such as retort pouches, thermally-insulated bags and more.”

CFIA is now scheduled to run at ExpoNantes – La Beaujoire Expo Park, from September 29 to October 1, 2020. New stand layouts are still to be confirmed.

It will make September a busy month for the Sirane sales team – we’re also exhibiting at Packaging Innovations at Olympia, London, from September 23-24.
