US shoppers will receive their first taste of The Saucy Fish Co as the popular UK brand – which uses Sirane’s ovenable packaging – launches into nearly 400 supermarkets.
The Saucy Fish Co – already a well-established brand in UK supermarkets – will be available in 390 Giant-Carlisle and Giant-Landover stores, spread across eight US states.
Two ‘ovenable’ foil bake products – using bags from Sirane’s Sira-Cook range – will be in the initial launch, alongside three products with fish and sauce and two salmon products.
Two new flavours in The Saucy Fish range, created especially for the US market, will include salmon with a sweet soy and chilli dressing and tilapia with a red Thai sauce.
Jeremy Haydn-Davies, Sirane sales director, said: “The Saucy Fish products are a stunning example of our cooking bags in action, and a great ready-to-cook seafood product.
“They look great on the shelf – and equally importantly they taste great too. We wish the company all the best with taking the products to new markets in North America.”
The United States is the world’s third highest consumer of seafood.
Simon Smith, group sales and marketing director at IGUK, owners of The Saucy Fish brand, said: “In time, I expect the USA naturally to have larger sales than the UK.
“This US listing represents a great triumph. Fish consumption in the US is at its highest level since 1984, so it’s a great time to launch Saucy Stateside.”
The products will continue to be manufactured at the company’s Grimsby base, and will be shipped to the US frozen, before being thawed and sold as a chilled product. However, Mr Smith added: “If this takes off in a big way, as we think it will, we might work with some local manufacturers in the US to produce bespoke North American lines.”
